"Deep Calls to Deep" is a series of oil, acrylic, and watercolor paintings created with a spontaneous and intuitive process. The title is inspired by many scriptures, but titled directly from Psalm 42:7, “Deep calls to deep at the roar of your waterfalls; all your breakers and your waves have gone over me.” My approach to these paintings was to begin without any concrete idea as to what I was going to paint and where the painting would end up. I began each painting asking God to speak to me and help me paint what He would have me paint. I usually began with an impression of a color and continued from there. The whole process felt very vulnerable as I felt like I was looking at my own soul poured out on a canvas, and yet I didn’t know where it was all going to begin or end. The name 'Deep Calls to Deep' came out of all the heartache, pain, doubt, and fear I felt through this season, poured out on these canvases, and the way in which God reached down and met me in my depths. This series is all about how God does not withhold any part of Himself and His goodness from us. He reaches down into the depths of our pain, our grief, our sorrow, our fear, and He covers us with the depths of His love, peace, joy, strength, safety, restoration, and healing.
